Chesterfield History Camps Scheduled in July & August Download as iCal file

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, in partnership with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks & Recreation will present two “Lord Chesterfield” History Day Camps for children ages 8-12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 27-29 and August 17-19, 2010.

            The camps will include a half-day session at each of the following historic sites located near the county government complex off Iron Bridge Road: Magnolia Grange Plantation house museum, the County Museum and historic Castlewood.

            The “Lord Chesterfield” Day Camps will offer a variety of activities typical of 19th century plantation life in rural Chesterfield, including domestic chores and period children’s games as well as the life of a Civil War soldier, Colonial militia training, coal mining and railroad history, and archeology.

            The cost for each camp is $65 per child which includes snacks and water.  A maximum of 15 participants per camp will be accepted.  Pre-paid registration is required; checks should be made payable to Chesterfield Historical Society and mailed to PO Box 40, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
