Your Summer Music Guide

Boomer’s Top 75 Concerts list offer music for every taste
Story and Calendar by Lisa O. Monroe
Band bios by Gary Theroux
Whether it’s music legends like Chubby Checker and James Taylor or contemporary superstars like Sting and Sheryl Crow, this summer offers boomers and others lots of opportunities to see their favorite singers and musicians live and in person.
Whether you prefer country, rock, reggae, jazz or soul, the bands you grew up with or newer pop music, there are sure to be performances on our list that you won’t want to miss.
You’ll find the classic bands you’ve always wanted to see or never miss. There’s Chicago, Foreigner, ASIA, Jethro Tull, the Doobie Brothers, The Beach Boys and many more.
Check out a tribute band such as 1964, hailed by Rolling Stone as the best Beatles tribute band; Creedence Clearwater Revisited with original Revival bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford; or Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors.
See country veterans like Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. If that’s not your style, how about spending the evening lulled by the soothing voices of The Irish Tenors, Harry Connick Jr. or Tony Bennett?
See several favorites all at once by taking in a festival such as the Hippiefest at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center or the jazz festival in Hampton.
From Richmond west to Charlottesville, east to Virginia Beach and north to D.C., the venues vary as much as the artists. They range from large outdoor pavilions and indoor arenas that seat thousands to intimate music halls such as The National in downtown Richmond or The Birchmere in Alexandria.
